去る3月11日、「シアトルと私」と題されて中内会員が卓話をご担当くださいました。仲内会員には、シアトル滞在時にこの「クラブボイス」にも2024年10月15日付「ベルビュー訪問記」を寄稿いただいていますが、卓話に先立ち、「インスピレーショングラウンド」建設の発案者であるベルビューロータリークラブのロバート＝ローズ氏へご連絡をされ、素敵な交流が始まっているとのこと。そのやり取りのはじまりを仲内会員の卓話スピンオフ版として皆様に共有くださることになりました。ロータリーで繋がるご縁、「ロータリーのマジック」を感じながら是非ご一読ください。

ベルビューへの長期滞在中に、お孫さんと一緒にプレイグラウンドを訪れ、楽しんでいただけたとのこと、大変嬉しく思います。
私の名前はロバート・ローズと申します。ベルビューロータリークラブの元会長（2012/2013年）です。インスピレーションプレイグラウンドは、会長になる前の2010/2011年に私が思いついた、非常に野心的（もしかしたら無謀？）なアイデアでした。
以下に元のコンセプトをご紹介します。
ベルビューロータリークラブとベルビュー市に感謝します。私がネパールでの活動で学んだ、障がいのある子どもたちを支援するコンセプトを、ベルビューのダウンタウンで「インスピレーションプレイグラウンド」として実現していただきました。私にとっての「インスピレーション」は、障がいのある人とない人が一緒にいると、障がいに対する認識が非常に短時間で劇的に変化するということでした。ボランティアを連れてネパールに行くと、多くの場合、障がいのある子どもたちの施設でプロジェクトを行い、ボランティアは子どもたちと遊んだり交流したりします。必ずと言っていいほど、30分以内に、悲しみや同情から喜びや理解へと、認識の変化が見られました。ボランティアは障がいのことをすっかり忘れ、他の子どもたちと同じように、ただ子どもと遊んだり交流したりしていました。障がいを超えて、ボランティアは障がいのある子どもたちの能力を見ることができたのです。

このプロジェクトの成功において最も重要な要素は、ベルビュー市との提携でした。次に重要なのは、私のロータリークラブとそのメンバーがプロジェクトに関与したことです。私たちは非常に活発で比較的大きなクラブ（当時200名の会員）であり、このプロジェクトを実現できる多くの専門職や職種の代表者がいました。すべてのクラブメンバーが何らかの形でこのプロジェクトに参加しました。ベルビュー市の公園課は、障がいのある子どもたち（そして大人たち）が皆でプレイグラウンドを楽しめるように、「インクルーシブ」なプレイグラウンドの建設に尽力してくれました。
主な課題は以下の通りでした。
1）資金調達：前述の通り、これは私たちのクラブにとって大きなプロジェクトでした。私
たちはこれほど大規模なプロジェクトを試みたことがありませんでした。まさに「崖から飛び降りる」ようなプロジェクトで、至る所に失敗の可能性がありました！
2）建設費の増加：必要な資金を調達するのに数年かかったため、建設費が上昇しました。何ができて何ができないかについて、重要な決断をしなければなりませんでした。
3）完成までに数年かかる間、クラブの関心を維持し、参加してもらうこと。

your email earlier! I hope your presentation to your Rotary Club was
successful. Perhaps you can give another one about Inspiration Playground in the future!
I am glad that you were able to visit
and enjoy the playground with your grandchild during your extended stay in Bellevue.
My name is Robert Rose and I’m past
president of Bellevue Rotary Club (2012/2013). Inspiration Playground was
a very ambitious (perhaps crazy?) idea that I came up with back in 2010/2011
prior to becoming club president.
Here’s the original concept:
Thank you to Bellevue Rotary Club and the City
of Bellevue for taking a concept I learned from my work in Nepal, helping
children with disabilities and turning it into 'Inspiration Playground' in
Downtown Bellevue. The 'inspiration' for me was that when you put people with
and without disabilities together, perceptions about disability change
dramatically in a very short period of time. When I would bring volunteers to
Nepal many times we'd do a project at an organization with kids with
disabilities and the volunteers would play and interact with the kids. Without
fail I would see a perceptual shift which would quickly go from sadness and
pity to joy and understanding within about 30 minutes or less. The volunteers
forgot about the disability altogether and were playing and interacting with a
kid, just like any other kid! Looking beyond the disability the volunteers were
able to see the capabilities of these children with disabilities.

Partnering with the City of Bellevue on
this project was the most critical element in its success. A close second
was the involvement of my Rotary Club and its members in the project.
We’re a very active and fairly large club (200 members back then) with
representation in many of the professions and job specialities that could make
this project happen. Every club member participated in this project in
some way. The City of Bellevue’s Parks Department was very instrumental
in making sure the playground would be built as ‘inclusive’ so that children
(and adults) of all abilities would be able to enjoy the playground.
Major challenges were:
1.) Raising funds: As mentioned this
was a major project for our club. We had never attempted any project this
size or scale. It was truly a ‘jump off a cliff’ type of project with the
chance to fail around every corner!
2.) Construction cost increases: As
it took a few years to raise the needed funding, construction costs rose.
We had to make critical decisions on what we could, or could not afford.
3.) Keeping the club engaged and involved
over the years it took to come to fruition.

Anything I can do to help create more opportunities for children with and
without disabilities to get a chance to interact together, get outside and play
together would be my honor.

私の娘は結婚してから10年間シアトルに住んでおり、ベルビューの会計事務所で会計士として働いています。 2024年の夏には、孫の世話をするために、娘の家族に所に長期滞在しました。
滞在中、ベルビューのインスピレーションプレイグラウンドを訪れ、貴クラブのご寄贈であることを知りました。 私自身と孫を含む多くの人々にとって素晴らしいレクリエーションスペースとなっている、清潔で広々とした、そして美しくカラフルなインスピレーションプレイグラウンドに深く感銘を受けました。
この素晴らしい公園に興味を持ち、オンラインでベルビューロータリークラブの活動を調べました。 日本に帰国後、その結果を自分のロータリークラブで共有したところ、SAA（会場監督）からこのテーマについてプレゼンテーションをしてほしいと依頼されました。
孫が大好きなインスピレーションプレイグラウンドが、日本とベルビューのロータリークラブを結ぶ架け橋となったことを大変嬉しく思っています。

I am writing to you because I will be giving a presentation on my experiences in Seattle and Bellevue this past summer at our club's meeting on March 11th.
My daughter has been living in Seattle for ten years since her marriage and works as an accountant at an accounting firm in Bellevue.
I stayed with her family for an extended period during the summer of 2024 to help babysit my grandchild.During my stay, I visited the Inspiration Playground in Bellevue and learned that it was donated by your esteemed Rotary Club.
I was deeply impressed by the clean, spacious, and beautifully colorful Inspiration Playground,
which serves as a wonderful recreational space for many people, including myself and my grandchild.Intrigued by this wonderful park, I researched the activities of the Bellevue Rotary Club online.Upon returning to Japan, I shared my findings with my own Rotary Club. As a result,I was asked by our SAA (Sergeant-at-Arms) to give a presentation on the topic.
It brings me great joy to see how the Inspiration Playground, which my grandchild adores,
has become a bridge connecting our Rotary Clubs in Japan and Bellevue.
In my presentation, I plan to share photos and materials showcasing the park and the activities of the Bellevue Rotary Club.
I also have a few questions I would like to ask:
（１）What were the key points you focused on when constructing the Inspiration Playground?
（２）Were there any difficulties encountered during the construction, and if so, how were they overcome?"
I sincerely hope that this presentation will encourage further exchange
between our two clubs, the Bellevue Rotary Club and the Osaka Umeda Rotary Club.
